A transport container, in particular a container with a side wall which can be opened completely, having a low weight and good loading possibilities, which container is designed to be particularly stable and inherently rigid in the closed state, and in which any loading material resting against the side wall will not hinder the opening operation, at least one roof part being designed to be pivotable, and the side wall which is resistant to sliding being designed to be pivotable by means of a further joint in the region of the outer longitudinal edge of the pivotable roof part. By means of vertically and horizontally acting connections, the pivotable roof part and the side wall are retained in the closed state and the pivotable parts are locked in their closed position by means of locking devices, such as thumb latch closures. The invention can be applied advantageously in container traffic, since little space is required at the top and towards the opening side, and the full loading space of the container can be exploited.
