In the method proposed, workpieces (2, 11) are heated by natural-gas-fired radiator pipes (3, 12). Carbon dioxide is separated out of the exhaust gases from the radiator pipes in a pressure-change device (5). The carbon dioxide is fed, together with natural gas, to a generator (7) which produces an endothermic gas for the case-hardening of some of the workpieces (2). The remaining exhaust gases from the pressure-change device (5) are used, together with ammonia, for the nitro-carburization of additional workpieces (11). The invention thus makes it possible to free the exhaust gases of carbon dioxide and, by introducing the carbon dioxide in the case-hardening process, to increase its cost-effectiveness by reducing the case-hardening times, the remaining exhaust gases being used to increase the cost-effectiveness of a parallel nitro-carburization process. |
