The lever (1) actuates the valves (6, 7) simultaneously. It can have a clearance-compensating device at one or both of its ends towards the valves, typically consisting of a hydraulic insert (13), whose amount of movement is limited to the permissible tolerance between the two valves. The lever can be guided in the lateral direction by one of the valve stem ends, which works in a lengthwise groove in it. It can contain a roller, running against a cam on the camshaft. The hydraulic insert can be supplied with oil from the lever support and via a lengthwise passage through the lever. Alternatively, the support itself can contain the automatic clearance adjustment.
