<p>A method and apparatus for an internal combustion engine liquid fuel delivery system (10, 12, 22, 26) include an electrical power source to preheat fuel to a maximum temperature for the fuel to remain in the liquid phase just below the fuel vaporization. Preheating takes place immediately before delivery to the engine's fuel-air mixing device. Fuel is heated in a dual coil assembly (16) having an adjustable valve (14) that controls the volume of fuel flowing through the heating assembly (10). A temperature control apparatus (22) maintains the fuel temperature at fuel pre-vaporization temperature. The retrofit system includes a solenoid (12) that selectively directs fuel through either the fuel delivery preheating system (10, 12, 22, 26) or the engine's existing fuel delivery system (12c). A control panel (30) allows the vehicle operator to activate or deactivate the system and to set a desired preselected temperature and displays the actual temperature of the fuel entering the carburetor. The system substantially and unexpectedly improves output horsepower and fuel economy while reducing engine component carbon sediment and gaseous exhaust atmospheric pollutants.</p> |
