A gear selector retainer (1) for the positional fixing of a gear selector rod of a gearbox for motor vehicles is intended to be minimised with respect to its part and production cost. For this purpose, the housing (10) of the gear selector retainer (1) is designed as a thin-walled sleeve and pressed into a hole (15) of a gearbox housing (16). At the same time, means (18) for the axial positional securing of the inner element (2) extend from the cage (13) outwards. As a result of this construction, the hollow bolt previously used for bolting the gear selector retainer (1) into the gearbox housing (16) can be omitted. <IMAGE>
