This invention relates to a process for hydroconverting coal in a hydroconverting zone (4) to liquid hydrocarbon products. Particulate coal is added to mixing zone (1) through line (2). Catalyst precursor is dissolved in a hydrogen donor solvent and added to the mixing zone (1) through line (3). The mixture is passed to a hydroconversion zone (4) under hydroconversion conditions to form hydroconversion product which is separated in zones (6) and (7) into separate component product streams.
