A position sensor for a pivotal shift lever (2) comprises a positioning plate (1) having an undulating surface (8) thereto, and an intermediate lever (9) one end (5) of which is pivotally attached to the shift lever (2) and the other end (7) of which is resiliently urged into positive engagement with said undulating surface (8) of the positioning plate (1). A switch (10) is mounted on the shift lever (2) such that, on pivotal movement of the shift lever (2), the other end (7) of the intermediate lever (9) is moved along the undulating surface (8) to actuate the switch (10) as said other end (7) of the intermediate lever (9) moves up and down the undulations of said surface, actuation of said switch (10) being arranged to indicate when the shift lever (2) remains in an undesirable position for longer than a predetermined maximum time period. <IMAGE> |
