Catalysts useful in olefin polymerization are a mixture of (a) (i) one or more compounds Zn(X1)2 and one or more compounds Al(R1)3, or (ii) Zn(X1)2.2Al(R1)3, wherein X1 is halide and R1 is C1-12 hydrocarbyl; and (b) one or more of V(X2)c(OR2)b-c, VO(X3)d(OR3)3-d, or VO(X4)2, wherein X2, X3 and X4 are halogen, R2 and R3 are C1-18 hydrocarbyl, b is 3-4, c is 0-b, and d is 0-3; and can contain (c) one or more of M(R5)e(X5)3-e, Al2(R5)3(X5)3 or Mg(R6)fY2-f, wherein X1 and X2 are halide, R1, R5, R6 and R9 are C1- 12 hydrocarbyl, M is Al or B, e is 0-3, Y is halide, O-(C1-12 hydrocarbyl) or N(SiR93)2, and f is 0-2.
