PURPOSE:To provide a metal support having highly purifying and resource saving characteristics by forming the metal support out of a honeycomb body and thick and thin wall casings, and further forming the casings out of a thin wall casing, a thick wall casing near both ends of the honeycomb body and a space forming casing to form space around the external surface of the honeycomb body. CONSTITUTION:A metal support MS is formed out of a honeycomb body H and a casing C. The honeycomb body H is radial type made of a flat strip material 1 and a corrugated strip material 2, thereby forming an exhaust gas flow passage 3. In addition, the casing C is formed out of a thin wall casing C1 laid all around the outer surface of the honeycomb body H, a thin wall casing C2 laid only around a section near both ends of the honeycomb body H, and a space forming casing C3 to form space SP around the outer surface of the honeycomb body H, together with the casings C1 and C2. According to this construction, a sealed space section is formed, applying a wall thickness difference, and the features of high durability and insulation as well as resource saving quality can be realized. |
