The procedure for making a foil sleeve (1) to cover the stopper and neck of a sparkling wine or other drink bottle, e.g. with a cork retained by wire, consists of rolling a cut-out piece of aluminium or tin/aluminium alloy foil (3) round a mandrel to form a conical skirt (5) with overlapping lengthwise edges and two sections (8, 9) with different angles of taper, the surplus material of the upper section being taken up by grooves (11). The top of the cover is fitted with a cap (6) made from a stamped polymer strip that is sealed in place and can carry print. |
