摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent any case of excess and shortage in damping force from occurring as well as to make improvements in control responsiveness and actuator durability by controlling a setting damping characteristic variably through the size of a phase difference between the sprung-up-and-down of damping characteristic control and relative speed. CONSTITUTION:This suspension system is provided with a shock absorber (b) with a damping characteristic altering means (a) being interposed between a car body and each wheel, and when a damping characteristic of either of an extension side or a pressure side is variably controlled, the reverse stroke side is locked to a low damping characteristic, a sprung up-and- down-speed detecting means (c), a relative speed detecting means (d) lying between both sprung and springing spaces, and a phase difference detecting means (e) for varying waveforms in a relative speed to the varying waveform of the sprung up-and-down-speed, respectively. When this phase difference goes beyond the specified threshold value, the sprung up-and-down value at that time is divided by the relative speed value, setting it to the damping characteristic multiplied by a specified proportional constant, and when it is within the threshold value, this damping characteristic is largely set. In addition, it is also provided with such a means (f) as variably controlling the setting damping characteristic to an extension stroke when a directional judging code of the sprung up-and-down speed is positive, but to a pressure stroke side when it is negative, respectively.
