PURPOSE:To produce a fiber reinforced aluminum titanate sintered compact having a high strength and applicable as structural ceramics. CONSTITUTION:Water and a dispersant are added to mullite powder and powdery starting materials for aluminum titanate. They are pulverized and mixed to prepare a slurry and sheets of silicon carbide fibers or fibers produced from Ti, Si and C elements are dipped in the slurry, semidried and laminated. The resultant laminated body is dried and burnt to produce the objective fiber reinforced aluminum titanate sintered compact. The amt. of the mullite added so as to strengthen grain boundaries of aluminum titanate is preferably controlled to 5-30%. |
