PURPOSE:To provide an onboard navigation system which enables the displaying of the current position of a vehicle at a proper position on a map even when the shape and the position of a road in a map data is not correct. CONSTITUTION:This system has a CD-ROM1 in which a map data is stored being combined with an accuracy data inducing accuracy pertaining a road contained therein, sensors 5, 6 and 7 to monitor how a vehicle travels, a CPU4 which calculates a run-ning trace of the vehicle to compare it with a corresponding shape of the road and corrects the position of the vehicle according to the accuracy data to determine a proper position on the map of the vehicle when it does not match the shape and a display means 8 to display a map and the current position of the vehile. Even when the running trace of the vehicle does not match the corresponding shape of the road, the position of the vehicle can be corrected according the cause thereof. This always enables the displaying of the current position of the vehicle at a proper position on the map on display. |
