PURPOSE:To obtain an oxide superconductor consisting of inexpensive and harmless elements and having Tc equal to liquid nitrogen temperature or higher than that by subjecting alkali earth elements to react with a specific composition containing Cu and O in a metal capsule at a high temperature and pressure. CONSTITUTION:A composition expressed by the formula, which is a mixture of oxides of each element consisting of copper and >=1 of alkali earth elements selected from calcium, strontium and barium, a mixture of oxides of >=2 kinds of those elements or an oxide containing all of them at the same time, is solely or the above mentioned composition and an oxidizing agent, which produces oxygen by thermal decomposition, are sealed in a metal capsule, which does not permeate oxygen gas, and the above-mentioned composition or the composition and the above-mentioned oxidizing agent are subjected to react at a high temperature and pressure to obtain the objective superconductor. Here, in the formula, A is an alkali earth element, calcium, strontium or barium; (n) >=1: deltais a number larger than 0 and not larger than 1.
