Process for starting a burner-operated heating appliance

What is described is a process for starting a burner-operated heating appliance, the burner of which is fed by means of a combustion-air blower with combustion air and by means of a fuel-conveying device with fuel for forming a combustible mixture. The heating appliance possesses, furthermore, a glow device for evaporating the fuel during a starting phase of the burner and a flame monitor which, when flame formation is detected, transmits a signal to an associated control unit. The control unit controls the rotational speed or frequency of the combustion-air blower and of the fuel-conveying device and the operation of the glow device. In order to obtain an especially reliable starting behaviour, according to the invention the rotational speed of the combustion-air blower is increased, with fuel conveyance remaining constant, during the ignition period in the starting phase by means of the control unit. The increase in the rotational speed preferably takes place continuously, and the fuel/combustion-air ratio varying thereby guarantees that an operating point suitable for ignition is reached. Provision is made, furthermore, for the glow device to remain operative from the commencement of the starting phase at least until full fuel conveyance or the full rotational speed of the combustion-air blower is reached. The process according to the invention is suitable especially for operating an air-heating appliance.
