The invention relates to an open-end friction-spinning apparatus having two rotating friction elements (2, 3), forming a V-shaped nip (33) between them, and a sliver-opening device (4). The sliver-opening device (4) contains inter alia an opening-roller housing (6) having an outlet orifice (35) and enclosing an opening roller (5). The axis of rotation (34) of the opening roller (5) runs approximately orthogonally to the axis of rotation (21) of the friction element (2). The outlet orifice (35) of the opening-roller housing (6) is arranged in the region of an air flow (27) rotating together with the opening-roller clothing (26), in the immediate vicinity of the fibre-transport surface (24) of the friction element (2) and is designed so that the individual fibres (12) emerging from the air flow (27) under the effect of centrifugal force assume a direction of flight approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis (21) of the friction element (2). <IMAGE>
