A control device has a flow dividing valve (3) which is connected to a high-pressure pump (1) and from which a pilot flow line (4) leads, e.g. to a first actuator device of a hydraulic steering system (6). A flow branch (5) leads from the flow dividing valve (3) to a second actuator device of a working hydraulic system (7). The flow dividing valve (3) has a measurement orifice (11) which lies after a control edge (8) in the direction of flow. A further flow branch (12) directs a working flow to the steering system (6) when steering is occurring. The damping of the valve piston (10) is designed in such a way that a control edge (13) for the flow branch (5) closes rapidly or in an undamped way and opens in a damped way. So that the oil forced in the closing direction of the control edge (13) during a movement of the valve piston (10) can flow off quickly, which is prevented by the measurement orifice (11), according to the invention a pressure relief valve (21) is provided. This permits, via a line (27), a rapid compensation of volume between a damping space (17) and a space which is located on one end side (14) of the valve piston (10). This avoids a brief loss of oil flow in the pilot flow line (4) which is disadvantageous for a rapid build-up of pressure in the steering system. <IMAGE>
