An electronic system for the early recognition, in the car, of road traffic warning signals is characterised in that the noise of road traffic is picked up already outside the car. The audio sensitivity (acoustic sensitivity) of the car driver for these signals is increased by acoustically receiving them electronically at an early stage. The outside signals are constantly compared in an additional device with the known warning signals of police, ambulance and fire brigade. When a warning signal is recognised, the volume of the car radio is turned down. It is also possible to amplify the microphone signal in the radio.
