The present invention relates to a process and an apparatus for heat insulation, using solids under vacuum. The process according to the invention consists in the fact that a flexible, vacuum-tight sheath 1 in any initial form is arranged around the body 2 which is to be thermally insulated and is also of any form, the sheath 1 containing a granular solid body 3, and the sheath 1 is then evacuated, via a pump-out stub 4 which can be shut off, and fixed on the body 2 in this manner. The apparatuses according to the invention are suitable for achieving considerable amounts of energy, while simultaneously cutting down in terms of costs and volume, in heat-storage technology and in the construction of refrigerating installations. <IMAGE>
