An infrared radiator, made of ceramic, for power-controllable heating installations has at least one heating filament 2 embedded into the ceramic mass and a thermal element (thermoelectric couple) 9, 10 supported by an auxiliary body 3. The auxiliary body 3 consists, at least on its surface, of an electrically insulating material. In order that the thermal element 9, 10 can be positioned relative to the heating filament 2 in a reproducible unambiguous manner, the auxiliary body 3 has, on the one hand, positioning places or areas 4 which come to rest on at least one heating filament 2 and, on the other hand, a depression 8 for arranging the thermal element 9, 10 in the correct position relative to the auxiliary body 3. <IMAGE>
