The invention provides a partly open anaesthetic system which is particularly suitable for use in emergency medicine, in rescue services, in outpatient interventions and in the management of patients for magnetic resonance imaging. The partly open anaesthetic system can be connected to a tube or the like and comprises a separating means (31) for separating the gases exhaled by the patient from the fresh gas to be inhaled by the patient, an intermediate store (10) of variable volume such that ventilation of the patient is possible by varying the volume of the intermediate store (10) of variable volume, at least one supply line for connection of the intermediate store (10) of variable volume to the separating means (31), and a fresh gas connection (40) for connection of the partly open anaesthetic system to a fresh gas line (50). Fresh gas can be stored in a reservoir (20), so that fresh gas flows from the fresh gas line into the reservoir (20) in the ventilation phase of the patient and the intermediate store (10) of variable volume can be supplied with fresh gas from the fresh gas line (50) and the reservoir (20) or only from the reservoir (20) in the exhalation phase of the patient.
