A motor-vehicle seat (1) has a seat part (2) which can be displaced by means of a height-adjustment device (supporting levers 5 and 6), and a backrest (3) which holds a head restraint (18) via two supporting rods (19). In this arrangement, a receiving part (21) is attached perpendicularly to the backrest (3), along which receiving part a transverse part (20) can be displaced. The latter has the supporting rods (19) passing through it, there being attached to the transverse part (20) a leaf spring (33), the free end of which is releasably connected to a supporting rod (19). Finally, there is provided a sliding member (26) which runs transversely to the supporting rods (19) and which engages in the tangential grooves (29) of the supporting rods (19) due to the action of a tension spring (28). In this arrangement, after the sliding member (26) has been released, the head restraint (18) is displaced into the base position (e) due to the action of the leaf spring (33).
