The invention relates to an element of a photovoltaic solar cell having at least one electrode which is elongated or in the shape of a rod or wire (or filament) or strip, which electrode has at least one photovoltaically active coating on its surface, and is characterised in that the electrode consists of a material which is a good conductor of electricity, in particular impure silicon having polycrystalline, preferably monocrystalline, structure and the coating consists of a monocrystalline or polycrystalline photovoltaically active material on the surface of the electrode, in particular silicon with specific doping (p- or n-doping).
