A building (10) has legs (11) each of which is curved and in a vertical plane, the upper ends of legs (11) being rigidly secured to a central securing member (13) and the lower leg ends also being rigidly secured to footings, so as to reduce flexibility of the building. Between their upper and lower ends the legs (11) are further stiffened by rigidity imparting tension braces (31, 38), panels (28, 60) or girts (26). The building is lightweight and resilient, and under cyclonic or earthquake conditions, can flex without overstressing its structural members, and return to its original shape. |
