The joint consists of a partially hemispherical race (2) which fits inside a bone-implanted socket (1), and which receives a spherical joint head (3) via an intermediate array of ball bearings (4). The joint head is attached to a shaft (5) or other component implanted in a bone cavity.An apertured plate is attached to the lower peripheral surface of the hemispherical race, surrounding the neck on which the spherical head is secured, to retain the ball bearings inside the assembly.
