Self-igniting device for an air-bag-inflating means

An air-bag system comprises an inflating means which contains ignitible gas-generating material which, when it is ignited, generates gas in order to inflate the air bag. The system further comprises a collision sensor, a first actuating arrangement and a second actuating arrangement. The collision sensor detects a predetermined amount of vehicle deceleration, which amount indicates a collision and provides a collision signal after such a deceleration has been sensed. The first actuating arrangement ignites the gas-generating material after the collision signal. The second actuating arrangement ignites the gas-generating material when the surrounding temperature of the inflating means reaches a predetermined increased level. The second actuating arrangement comprises a bimetal disc which bends out of a concave shape into a relatively convex shape when the surrounding temperature rises to the predetermined increased level. If the bimetal disc bends into the relatively convex shape, it moves an igniting pin member forcibly against an igniting device in order to actuate the igniting device. The igniting device then ignites the gas-generating material.
