A tachograph, i.e. a display instrument for the time and the speed or engine speed of a motor vehicle is known, in which tachograph the tachometer pointer on the one hand and the minute and hour hands on the other have a common axis of rotation and all are constructed as pointer needles. In the new display instrument, a first scale (2) is formed with a depression (5) whose floor (6) contains the second scale (4) and an opening (7) into which a second pointer which is constructed as a pointer disc (3) is inserted essentially flush with the floor of the depression, a second pointer (1) being arranged lying above the pointer disc (3) radially inside the depression.
