The roller according to the invention stores the treatment liquid, penetrating the treatment material, in liquid chambers on its circumference and, during the rotation of the roller, transfers it again to the treatment material in the direction of run. The multiple penetration of the treatment material with treatment liquid which thereby occurs brings about a rapid and uniform wetting of the treatment material with a high liquor exchange within the treatment material. The design according to the invention of the liquid chambers induces the local concentration of the liquid circulation over the width of the treatment material and therefore an economical and environmentally friendly mode of treatment.
