<p>A method of and system (20) for detecting a discontinuity in a structure (21) are disclosed. The system (20) includes a wide band, vibrational frequency source (23, 23A and 24) for exciting the structure (21) with wide band, vibrational frequencies to produce a propagating field in the structure (21), means for determining (26 and 27) the frequency response of the propagating field between at least two positions (43A and 43), each position (43A and 43) being selected from the group consisting of a position on the structure (21) and a position in the structure (21), and means for determining (28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33) from the frequency response whether there is a discontinuity in the vicinity of the two positions (43A and 43), in the structure (21).</p> |
