A stacking apparatus is designed for the formation of a stack (3) of flat articles (2a) held upright on a depository (1). These articles (2b) are fed by a feed device (6) at an acute angle to the already deposited articles (2a). When an article (2) is pushed in, a pressure part (9) driven by an eccentric (18) provides the necessary space in each case, by periodically pressing against the article to be pushed in and displacing the latter, together with the stack (3), in the direction of growth of the stack (3). <IMAGE>
