Operating switch for electric tools

An operating switch 25 for an electrically powered tool 10, consisting of a housing 16 and of an electric motor, which is supported by the housing 16, for driving a tool insert. The operating switch 25 has a trip device 22 which is arranged on the housing 16 and can be moved by the user between an "on" position and an "off" position. A mains switch assembly 26 is arranged inside the tool housing 16, adjacent to the trip device 22, and can be operated by the latter. The mains switch assembly 26 contains a moulding 28 which circumscribes an inner cavity 30 which has a cutout 32 which extends through said cavity 30. An electrical switch 34 is arranged inside the mains switch assembly 26 and is electrically connected to the electric motor. A bolt 42 extends through the cutout 32 in the moulding 28 and makes it possible to operate the electrical switch 34 by means of the trip device 22. An elastic foam cushion 44 is arranged between the bolt 42 and the trip device 22. The size and thickness of the foam part 44 are sufficient to close off the switch moulding 28 and to cover the cutout 32 when the trip device 22 is located in the "on" position in order to keep the electric tool live during normal operation, despite the tool vibrating, and to prevent dirt and machining residues (swarf) penetrating into the cavity 30 in the moulding of the ...
