The invention relates to novel light protection compositions characterised in that they contain natural and/or synthetic humic substances as light protection agents, in addition to conventional auxiliaries and/or carrier substances. The light protection compositions can be used advantageously both for cosmetic and dermatological purposes, for protecting the human skin against damaging UV radiation, and for the corresponding protection of plants and biotechnological preparations against the effect of light.
