MEDICINAL USE OF PYRIDINE DERIVATIVE

A pyridine derivative represented by general formula (I) wherein R<1>, R<2> and R<3> represent each hydrogen, (un)substituted phenyl, pyridyl, etc. It has a nerve growth factor production promoter activity or a neurotrophic factor activity. Hence it can be used as an ameliorant or remedy for symptoms or diseases accompanying peripheral nerve degeneration due to trauma, drug such as alcohol or antitumor drug, inflammation, or metabolism such as one observed in diabetes, and further of idiopathic nature. In addition, it can be used as an ameliorant or remedy for symptoms or diseases accompanying central nerve degeneration, such as senile dementia of Alzheimer type, cerebrovascular dementia, Down's syndrome, Parkinson's disease or Huntington's chorea, mental and motor incompetences caused by cerebral ischemia, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage or head injury, and spinal neuroparalysis.
