Process for dyeing aromatic polyamides

The object is an improved process for dyeing aromatic polyamide material which reduces the high air and water pollution due to carrier and gives access to a wider range of dyes. This object is achieved according to the invention when the aramid fibre materials are dyed with a liquor of disperse dye in liquid ammonia. The disperse dyes enter the aramid from the liquid ammonia, and after evaporation of the ammonia the aromatic polyamide material will have been dyed to a depth which depends on the dye concentration.
