<p>An apparatus (20) for continuously extruding shaped articles includes providing a frictional extrusion source for extruding a feed material (31), a chamber (42) for holding frictionally extruded material (29) received from the extrusion source, a plurality of die chambers (10), each of the die chambers (10) receiving extruded material (29) from the holding chamber (42), means (44, 45) for directing extruded material (29) from the holding chamber (42) to each die chamber (10) for selectively filling each die chamber (10) with extruded feed material (29) and means for monitoring filling of each die chamber (10) of said plurality of die chambers (10) with extruded feed material (29). The directing means (44, 45) is responsive to the monitoring means so that extruded material (29) can be directed from a filled die chamber to an empty die chamber for subsequent filling, thereby permitting continuous extrusion.</p> |
