Drive for vehicles driven by muscular power, such as scooters and pedal cycles in the widest sense, which are used for transportation, sport and leisure. The aim and object of the invention is to provide a drive which can be operated individually in many ways, permits optimum transmission of force and has a plurality of transmission regions. This object is achieved by virtue of the fact that there is an arrangement of pedals (1) to each of the movable ends (2) of which there is attached a tension belt (5) which is looped around a cam disc (6) which rotates about the axle (7) during the pedalling motion and, via a directional lock (8), driving gear (9), driving means (10) and driven gear (11), transmits the moment of force generated to the vehicle wheel (12). <IMAGE>
