In an electrode strip or electrode segment which is finished except for the conductors and is based on a sponge-like metal support, discrete, optionally masked areas, which are provided for contacting with conductor lugs, are heated for a few seconds to about 450 DEG C and then freed from the active material present there by blowing out with compressed air. As a result of the action of heat, for which a hot-air jet is particularly suitable, the organic binder present in the active material is destroyed. Owing to this pretreatment, clean metal surfaces are available for the welding of conductor lugs, the size of said surfaces being limited to the size just required for the connection.
|
