MOTION PICTURE PROCESSING METHOD AND DEVICE

PURPOSE:To provide the motion picture processing method in which motion vector is interpolated so that block distortion or a large background distortion due to discontinuity of a motion vector field is not caused in a picture synthesized by motion vectors. CONSTITUTION:In the motion vector interpolation method in which representative points 1 less than the number of picture elements is set in a frame of motion picture data to detect a motion vector 2 of the representative point 1 and a motion vector 4 of each picture element 3 in a frame is obtained by interpolation based on a motion vector 2 of the representative point 1, a discontinuous point 5 representing a border between an area in which the motion vector 2 of the representative point is detected and an area in which no motion vector is detected is set in a frame and the frame is divided into plural areas by a line 6 tying the motion discontinuous points 5 and a motion vector 4 of each picture element 3 is obtained from the motion vector 2 of the representative points in the same area through interpolation.
