APPARATUS FOR FILTERING MOLTEN METAL

PURPOSE:To enhance filtering efficiency by dissolving the uneveness of temperatures in molten metal in a filtering chamber. CONSTITUTION:The apparatus is provided with a filtering chamber 3 having a melt inlet opening 1 and a melt outlet opening 2, a vertical partition wall 4 provided between the melt inlet opening 1 and the filtering chamber 3 and an inlet passage 5 formed below the vertical partition wall 4 and communicating with the filtering chamber 3 so that molten metal such as aluminum is made to flow into the filtering chamber 3 through the inlet passage 5. The molten metal is then heated by an upper heater 15 and simultaneously filtered by ceramic tubes 8 of filtering units 7 arranged in the filtering chamber 3. The filtering units 7 are arranged on base blocks 13 in such a manner that the base blocks 13 capable of locating the bottom rows of the ceramic tubes 8 of the filtering units 7 almost at the same height of or a little above the top end of the inlet passage 5 are provided on a bottom wall located under an outlet side end cover and another end cover opposite to the outlet side of the filtering units 7.
