PURPOSE:To provide a picture compressor having a discrete cosine transformation (hereinafter called DCT) computing element in which arithmetic operation algorithm is selected depending on a motion of a picture and data improving picture quality against visual sense are obtained. CONSTITUTION:When 2-dimension DCT is replaced by linear DCT for two times for the execution of the arithmetic operation, a comparator circuit 110 compares an arithmetic operation time of a motion detector connecting to a DCT computing element with a threshold level. A linear DCT computing element 111 uses an output 1101 of the comparator circuit 110 to select a DCT arithmetic operation algorithm and executes the DCT arithmetic operation. The result of the DCT arithmetic operation is fed to an intermediate result memory 112, in which the result is stored. An output of the intermediate result memory 112 is fed to the linear DCT computing element 113. The linear DCT computing element 113 uses an output 1102 of the comparator circuit 110 to select the DCT arithmetic operation algorithm and to execute DCT arithmetic operation. |
