PURPOSE:To provide the hollow waveguide of a long life having an excellent transmission characteristic of a high-output laser beam and weatherability. CONSTITUTION:This hollow waveguide is produced by constituting a hollow region 5 in a tubular dielectric layer 3 and transmits the laser beam of the high output. A material having small absorption in an IR region in correspondence to a CO2 laser, etc., is used as this dielectric layer 3. A chemically stable ZnS layer 4 is formed on the inside wall of the dielectric layer 3. At leas one of Ge, ZnSe, PbF2, CaF2, BaF2, KCl, CdTe, CsBr, GaAs, KBr, KRS-5 and NaCl are used as the dielectric layer 3. The direct contact of the dielectric layer 3 with an etching liquid does not arise at the time of etching away the preform in the production process. The optimum materials (Ge, CaF2, etc.) are thus selectable so as to meet conditions, such as wavelength of the laser beam. |
