PURPOSE:To provide redundancy in a system and to reduce the loss in the case of transmission as well as reception by arranging two light emitting elements, two light receiving elements, and two polarizing beam splitters. CONSTITUTION:Nematic liquid crystal cells 15a to 15f orientated in parallel are arranged adjacently to three effective surfaces other than input/output surface of a first polarizing beam splitter 11a, and cholesteric or chiral nematic liquid crystal cells 16a to 16c are arranged adjacently to them. A first photodetector 12a and a first laser diode 13a are adjacently arranged on the outside of this liquid crystal layer. Nematic liquid crystal cells 15d to 15f orientated in parallel are arranged adjacently to three effective surfaces other than the surface adjacent to the first polarizing beam splitter 11a of a second polarizing beam splitter 11b, and cholesteric or chiral nematic liquid crystal cells 16d to 16f are arranged adjacently to them. A second photodetector 12b and a second laser diode 13b are adjacently arranged on the outside of this liquid crystal layer. |
