PURPOSE:To increase the lightness of an image of the liquid crystal projector device, reduce unevenness in the luminance, and improve the color purity. CONSTITUTION:Dichroic mirrors 3, 11, 13, and 18 have transmission/reflection characteristics controlled for light of an (s)-polarized component. Green light which is separated by the dichroic mirror 3 is converged by a condenser lens 5 and has its plane of polarization rotated by 45 deg. from the plane of polarization of the (s)- polarized component through a 1/2-wavelength plate 6 whose crystal axis is slanted by 22.5 in one direction, and the light is made incident on a polarizing plate 7 whose axis of polarization is slanted by 45 deg. in one direction from the plane of polarization of the (s)-polarized light. The transmitted light of the polarizing plate 7 is modulated by a green liquid crystal part 8. Then light which is transmitted through a polarizing plate 9 whose axis of polarization is slanted by 45 deg. in the other direction to the plane of polarization of the (s)-polarized light has its plane of polarization rotated by 45 deg. by a 1/2-wavelength plate 10 whose crystal axis is slanted by 22.5 deg. in the other direction to the plane of polarization of the (s)-polarized light and is transmitted through the dichroic mirror 18. reflected by the dichroic mirror 11, and projected on a screen through a projection lens 12. Blue light and red light are also processed similarly. |
