PURPOSE: To obtain an electrodynamometer type apparatus in which effective use of available space can be combined with sufficient stability of operation by an arrangement wherein a substrate supports all phases. CONSTITUTION: An electrodynamometer type apparatus comprises a movable permanent magnet member (rotor), a thin plate or foil-like substrate 41, a plurality of windings U1 -U3 , V1 -V3 and W1 -W3 connected electrically through interconnections 49A, 49B, 53A and 53B and having first and second spiral coils 43, 45 arranged, respectively, on the first and the second opposite faces of the substrate 41, and an electromagnetic stator having a plurality of phases U, V and W. The substrate 41 supports all phases U, V and W. According to the arrangement, effective use of available space can be combined with sufficient stability of operation.
