PICTURE PROCESSING METHOD AND UNIT

PURPOSE:To attain a print output by designating a trimming area of a photographic original, synthesizing the photographic data with character picture data while reading the photographic original and magnifying/reducing the photographic data and providing a picture output so as to synthesize the both without deteriorating picture quality of the photographic picture. CONSTITUTION:When an area requiring a photographic in a character picture comes during print, a printer 20 stops the printing and a 2nd scanner 85 is operated. The scanner 85 feeds idle a photographic original till a trimming area of the photographic original and the printer restarts printing synchronously with the scanner 85 till the trimming area reading is started. In this case, a CPU 90 allows a magnification section 90C to magnify/reduce a picture of a photograph to be read by the scanner 85. Furthermore, the CPU 90 reads control circuit picture data from a RAM 94 synchronously with the scanner 85 and the printer 20 to provided an output to a picture synthesis section 90D. The compositing section 90D composites the characteristic picture with photographic picture data being read by the scanner 85 and provides an output to the printer 20.
