This device includes a vertical vessel (2), means (6) for creating a homogeneous vertical magnetic field in this vessel, a source of plasma (8) for creating, in the central part of the vessel, a plasma of ions of the isotope to be separated, means (10) for creating, in the vessel, an electrical field perpendicular to the magnetic field and oscillating at the ionic cyclotron frequency of the isotope to be separated, which is adjusted according to the mass of this isotope, and collecting means (12) for recovering a mixture enriched and a mixture depleted in this isotope. The source of plasma includes a receptacle (14) containing the element (20) whose isotope is to be separated and means (18) for ionising the atoms of the element.
