<p>The storage and handling system is for cheese while ripening, the cheeses being placed on planks and inserted in racks, between which there are relatively narrow gangways. This may be in a warehouse, into which conditioned air of closely controlled temp. and humidity is delivered. All operations from arrival to discharge are fully programmed, a unit comprising a set number of cheeses being first automatically weighed and the weight recorded. The unit is then placed on a plank on a transporter, a number of loaded planks being assembled into a set and inserted in a rack by means of a side-loading forklife truck travelling in a gangway. The trucks are also used to turn the cheeses periodically on the planks, truck movements being programmed.</p> |
