PURPOSE:To efficiently update a file in a short time by transferring only the non-updated file from a host to a terminal in updating the file on the terminal side. CONSTITUTION:The both of a host computer (host) 10 and respective terminals 31 and 32 are provided with update file management information for managing the file update conditions of the own systems. When the respective terminals 31 and 32 are on-line-connected to the host 10 at the time of start or the like, the update file management information of the host 10 is received from the host 10 through communication lines 20-1 and 20-2. When any non-updated file is detected, this file is received from the host 10 through the communication lines 20-1 and 20-2. The file of its own system corresponding to this received file is updated so that the contents can be coincident with the contents of the received file. Therefore, the file to be updated in its own system can be instructed from the side of the terminal 31 and 32 to the host 10, and the host 10 transfers only the non-updated file to the terminals.
