The invention relates to a keel construction for a vessel, in which the keel can move between an active position, in which it is lowered from the underside of the hull of the vessel in the extended state, and an inactive retracted position. According to the invention, the keel comprises parts which pivot about a number of horizontal shafts and can be folded up from an active, vertical position into a substantially horizontal position beneath the hull of the vessel. <IMAGE>
