The invention relates to a turret slide system for numerically controlled single-spindle automatic turret lathes for machining workpieces from bar stock or for machining semi-finished products in chucks, collets or special work-holding fixtures. The slide system is divided into a front and rear slide, the front slide being the turret slide movable with respect to the work-spindle axis (Z-axis) and carrying the turret head. The front slide also has a control mechanism. The rear slide is a feed slide with a direction of motion parallel to the work-spindle axis (Z-axis) and moves the turret slide, the turret slide and turret head being movable with respect to the feed slide. The turret slide preferably has an indexing crank mechanism.
